Illinois Real ID

The Illinois Real ID is a secure form of state-issued identification that meets federal standards, allowing access to federally regulated activities such as boarding commercial flights, entering federal buildings, and nuclear plants. It features enhanced security measures, including a unique star image on the top right corner. To obtain a Real ID, residents must provide proof of identity, Social Security number, and residency. Starting May 7, 2025, a standard driver’s license or ID will no longer be sufficient for these federal purposes without a Real ID or another acceptable federal travel document.
