Iliotibial (IT) band syndrome

Iliotibial (IT) band syndrome is an overuse injury affecting the thick band of tissue called the IT band, which runs along the outside of the thigh from the hip to the shin. It commonly causes pain on the outer part of the knee, especially during activities like running or cycling. This pain results from inflammation or irritation where the IT band rubs against the thigh bone, often due to repetitive movement, overtraining, or biomechanical issues. Rest, proper stretching, strengthening exercises, and adjusting activity levels typically help reduce symptoms and prevent recurrence.
