Ieng Thirith

Ieng Thirith was a Cambodian psychiatrist and politician, known for her role as the Minister of Social Affairs during the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979). She was also the sister-in-law of Pol Pot, the regime's leader. During her tenure, she was involved in the administration of policies that led to the suffering and death of many Cambodians. After the fall of the Khmer Rouge, she was detained and faced charges related to her political role. Her case highlighted issues of accountability for those involved in the regime's crimes. She passed away in 2015.
