IEEE 802.1ah

IEEE 802.1ah, also known as Provider Backbone Bridges (PBB), is a networking standard designed to improve the way large service providers handle massive amounts of customer data. It enables multiple customers' traffic to be transported securely over shared service provider networks by adding an extra layer of identification within Ethernet frames. This means each customer's data stays isolated and protected, reducing network congestion and simplifying management. In essence, PBB creates a more scalable, efficient, and secure way to deliver Ethernet services across extensive networks, supporting the growth of cloud services, data centers, and enterprise connectivity.
