ICTY
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) is a court established by the United Nations in 1993 to prosecute serious crimes committed during the Yugoslav Wars, such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Its goal is to deliver justice for victims, hold perpetrators accountable, and promote international law. The ICTY operated until 2017, after which its remaining cases were transferred to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals. It signified a significant step in global efforts to address wartime atrocities and reinforce accountability for grave violations of human rights.
