Ichkeria
Ichkeria was a self-declared independent state representing the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, which sought independence from Russia. Located in the North Caucasus region, it emerged in the 1990s after the fall of the Soviet Union, during a time of political upheaval. Despite declaring independence, it was not widely recognized internationally and was involved in conflicts with Russia, including two wars (1994-1996 and 1999-2009). The movement aimed for Chechen self-determination but faced military and political suppression. Today, the area is governed as part of the Russian federation, with the term "Ichkeria" mainly relating to the historical and nationalist aspiration for Chechen independence.
