iatrogenic CJD

Iatrogenic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (iCJD) is a rare, fatal brain disorder caused by accidental transmission of abnormal prion proteins during medical procedures. These infectious proteins can be introduced through contaminated surgical instruments, brain or nerve tissue transplants, or growth hormone treatments derived from infected donors. Once inside the body, they gradually damage brain tissue, leading to rapid neurological decline, memory loss, muscle problems, and ultimately death. Although highly rare, iCJD highlights the importance of strict sterilization and safety measures in healthcare to prevent the spread of prion diseases.
