IALA Region A

IALA Region A is a designated area used for maritime navigation aids, covering most of the eastern hemisphere, including Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. It provides standardized lighthouse and buoy signals to ensure ships can safely identify their position and avoid hazards. In this region, navigational markers use specific color schemes and light patterns to distinguish between port (left) and starboard (right) sides of navigable channels. This system helps mariners interpret waterway markings accurately, promoting safe and efficient maritime travel across a large part of the world’s oceans and coastlines.
