Hysteria

Hysteria is a psychological condition characterized by excessive emotional reactions, often manifesting as uncontrollable laughter, crying, or anxiety. Historically, it was thought to affect primarily women and was linked to unexplained physical symptoms, such as paralysis or seizures, without a clear medical cause. In contemporary psychology, similar symptoms might be categorized under conversion disorders or hysteria-like conditions. It's important to recognize that these symptoms are genuine expressions of psychological distress, often stemming from trauma or significant stress, rather than being “fabricated” or “imaginary.” Treatment usually involves counseling or therapy to address the underlying psychological issues.
