Hypothesis test
A hypothesis test is a way to determine if a claim or assumption about a group or data is likely true or false. It involves making an initial assumption (the hypothesis), then analyzing sample data to see if that assumption holds up. If the data strongly contradicts the hypothesis, we may reject it; if not, we may accept or fail to reject it. This process helps in making informed decisions based on evidence, such as checking if a new medicine works better than existing ones or if a process meets quality standards.
