Hypostasis

Hypostasis, in a general context, refers to the underlying foundation or individual reality of something. In philosophy, it denotes the concrete existence or essence of a thing, as opposed to its abstract qualities or concepts. In theology, especially within Christian theology, it describes the distinct personhood within the Trinity—God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each with unique identities but united in one divine essence. Essentially, hypostasis relates to the core substance or individual existence of entities, helping to distinguish between their essential nature and their unique personal or conceptual attributes.
