Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves placing a patient in a pressurized chamber where they breathe pure oxygen. This increases the amount of oxygen in the blood, helping to reach damaged brain areas affected by a stroke. By boosting oxygen supply, HBOT can reduce brain cell death, support healing, and potentially improve recovery after an acute ischemic stroke. While promising, its use is still being studied, and it is usually combined with other treatments under medical supervision.
