Hydrogen-2 (Deuterium)
Hydrogen-2, also known as deuterium or heavy hydrogen, is an isotope of the element hydrogen. Unlike the most common hydrogen atom, which has just one proton in its nucleus, deuterium's nucleus contains one proton and one neutron. This makes it heavier than regular hydrogen. Deuterium naturally occurs in small amounts in water and the environment. It is important in scientific research, nuclear fusion, and tracing water movement in nature. Chemically, it behaves similar to regular hydrogen but allows scientists to distinguish between different molecules in experiments.
