Hydrocarbon reservoirs are underground rock formations that store accumulations of oil and natural gas created from ancient organic material. These reservoirs develop in porous, permeable rocks like sandstone or limestone, which act like natural sponges, trapping the hydrocarbons in tiny spaces.
