Hydrocarbon fuels

Hydrocarbon fuels are types of energy sources made from compounds composed mainly of hydrogen and carbon atoms. Common examples include gasoline, diesel, and natural gas. When burned, these fuels react with oxygen to produce energy, which powers engines, heating systems, and electricity generation. Hydrocarbons are derived from natural sources like oil and natural gas, formed over millions of years from plant and animal remains buried underground. While they are highly effective energy providers, burning hydrocarbons releases carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. They remain a primary energy source, but there is increasing focus on cleaner, renewable alternatives.
