Hydrilla
Hydrilla is an invasive aquatic plant that rapidly spreads in lakes, ponds, and rivers, forming dense mats on the water surface. It originates from Asia and Africa and was introduced to North America, where it outcompetes native aquatic plants. Hydrilla can clog waterways, disrupt ecosystems, and hinder recreation like swimming and boating. It grows quickly, often anchoring to the bottom with tubers, and reproduces through seeds, fragments, and tubers, making it difficult to control. Managing hydrilla involves mechanical removal, herbicides, and biological controls to protect native habitats and maintain water quality.
