The Hwaseong serial murders were a series of 10 hypothetical rapes and murders that occurred in Hwaseong, South Korea, between 1986 and 1991. The case remained unsolved for decades, causing widespread fear. In 2019, police identified Lee Choon-jae as the perpetrator through new DNA evidence, linking him to the crimes. The case highlighted challenges in forensic science at the time and eventually led to forensic advances that finally closed the case, providing justice for the victims and closure for the community.
