Hurons

The Hurons were a Native American tribe originally from the Great Lakes region, primarily present in what is now Ontario and parts of the United States. They belonged to the Iroquoian language family and organized into a confederation known as the Huron-Wendat. Historically, they were skilled farmers, traders, and warriors, engaging in commerce and alliances with European settlers and other tribes from the 16th century onward. Facing warfare and disease introduced by Europeans, the Hurons experienced significant decline by the 17th century. Today, some Huron descendants continue to preserve their culture and heritage through communities and cultural initiatives.
