Huron (Wendat)
The Huron, or Wendat, are a Native American people originally from the Great Lakes region, particularly around present-day Ontario, Canada. They are known for their rich culture, vibrant agriculture, and trade networks. Historically, the Huron lived in longhouses structured around clan systems and practiced farming, notably growing maize, beans, and squash, known as the "Three Sisters." They had complex social and political structures and engaged in extensive trade with neighboring tribes and European settlers. Their population faced significant decline due to conflict and diseases in the 17th century, but their cultural legacy remains significant today.
