Hungarian Revolution

The Hungarian Revolution of 1956 was a nationwide uprising against Soviet influence and communist government in Hungary. Sparked by demands for political reform, more freedoms, and withdrawal of Soviet troops, citizens, students, and workers took to the streets, leading to the formation of a new government that briefly declared Hungary's neutrality. Despite initial successes, the revolution was violently suppressed by the Soviet military in November 1956. The uprising resulted in thousands of deaths, widespread arrests, and a significant refugee crisis, but it also inspired future movements for democracy in Eastern Europe.
