Hungarian People's Army
The Hungarian People's Army was the national military force of Hungary from 1951 to 1990, primarily serving as the defense tool of the communist government during the Cold War. It was aligned with the Soviet Union and part of the Warsaw Pact, designed to defend Hungary and support Soviet military interests in Eastern Europe. The army trained in conventional warfare, had armored units, and participated in joint exercises with other communist countries. After the fall of communism, the army was disbanded, and Hungary transitioned to a civilian-led defense system and NATO membership.
