human variant CJD
Human variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD) is a rare, fatal brain disorder caused by prions—misfolded proteins that damage healthy brain tissue. It is primarily linked to eating products from cows infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease). vCJD typically develops with psychiatric and sensory symptoms, followed by rapid neurological decline, coordination problems, and dementia. The disease progresses quickly, and there is currently no cure. It is very rare but highlights the importance of food safety and prion disease awareness, as contaminated beef products can transmit the infection to humans.
