Huizache

Huizache is a type of thorny shrub or small tree native to parts of Mexico and Central America, scientifically known as Acacia farnesiana. It often features fragrant yellow flowers and has curved, spiny branches. Huizache plays an important ecological role by providing food and shelter for wildlife and helping prevent soil erosion. It is also used by local communities for medicinal purposes, fence posts, and making charcoal. While it can sometimes become invasive outside its native range, within its habitat it contributes to the biodiversity and landscape stability of dry, arid regions.
