
Huisi (Hui Si)
Huisi (慧思) was a prominent Chinese Buddhist monk in the 6th century who played a key role in the development of Chinese Buddhist thought and practice. He was a disciple of the influential monk Sengshu and helped shape early Chinese meditation and doctrinal schools, particularly the Tiantai tradition. Huisi emphasized the integration of profound doctrinal study with meditative practice, advocating for a systematic approach to understanding and achieving enlightenment. His teachings contributed to the refinement of Buddhist philosophy in China, influencing subsequent generations of monks and scholars.
