HUAC (House Un-American Activities Committee)

The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) was a committee of the U.S. House of Representatives established in 1938. Its primary aim was to investigate allegations of communist influence and subversion within the government and various sectors of American life, particularly during the Cold War. HUAC conducted hearings that sometimes led to the blacklisting of individuals in Hollywood and other industries. While it sought to protect national security, its methods and findings often sparked controversy and debates over civil liberties, free speech, and the balance between security and individual rights.
