HSC (hematopoietic stem cells)
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are special cells found mainly in the bone marrow that have the unique ability to develop into all types of blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. They are essential for producing and replenishing the blood throughout a person's life, maintaining a healthy immune system and carrying oxygen throughout the body. HSCs can self-renew, meaning they produce more stem cells, or differentiate into mature blood cells as needed, making them vital for growth, healing, and responding to infections. They are also used in treatments like bone marrow transplants.
