Hrolf Ganger
Hrolf Ganger, also known as Rollo, was a Norse Viking leader born around the late 9th century. He became famous for raiding parts of Northern Europe, including France. Eventually, he entered into an agreement with the French King Charles the Simple, in 911 AD, to stop his raids in exchange for land. Rollo was granted a region called Normandy (modern-day Normandy in France), where he settled and established a powerful ducal family. His descendants became the French-speaking Normans, influential in European history, notably in their later conquests of England in 1066.
