Hours of Service regulations

Hours of Service regulations govern the amount of time commercial drivers can operate a vehicle to ensure safety and prevent fatigue. Drivers are typically allowed a maximum of 11 hours of driving within a 14-hour "window" after starting their day, with mandatory rest periods, including a 30-minute break after 8 hours of driving. They must also take a minimum of 10 consecutive hours off-duty before the next shift. These rules balance operational needs with safety, reducing the risk of accidents caused by driver fatigue. They are enforced by regulatory agencies like the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
