Host cell genome

The host cell genome is the complete set of genetic material (DNA) contained within a living cell that belongs to an organism. It carries all the instructions required for the cell's growth, function, and reproduction. In other words, it is like a biological blueprint that guides how the cell develops and operates. The genome is made up of many genes, which are specific segments of DNA that code for proteins. In infected cells, viruses can insert their own genetic material into the host genome, using the cell’s machinery to reproduce.
