Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs)
Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs) are infections patients can get while receiving care in a healthcare facility, such as a hospital or clinic. They are not present at the time of admission but develop during stay or shortly after discharge. HAIs can result from bacteria, viruses, or fungi and often occur due to contact with contaminated surfaces, medical devices, or staff. Common types include bloodstream infections, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and surgical site infections. Preventive measures, such as proper hygiene, sterilization, and infection control protocols, are essential to reduce the risk and protect both patients and healthcare workers.
