Horthy era
The Horthy era refers to Hungary's period from 1920 to 1944 when Admiral Miklós Horthy served as the country's regent, effectively acting as the head of state. Following World War I and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Hungary became a constitutional monarchy with Horthy as a stabilizing military leader. His rule was marked by efforts to regain territories lost after the war, authoritarian tendencies, and shifting alliances during World War II. While maintaining some independence, Hungary aligned with Nazi Germany later in the war, leading to complex political and social dynamics until Horthy's abdication in 1944.
