Hormonal changes during pregnancy
During pregnancy, a woman's body undergoes significant hormonal changes to support fetal development. Key hormones include human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which signals pregnancy; progesterone, which helps maintain the uterine lining; and estrogen, which supports fetal growth and preparation for childbirth. The body also increases levels of relaxin to help soften the cervix and ligaments for delivery. These hormonal changes can affect mood, appetite, and energy levels, illustrating the complex adjustments a woman's body makes to nurture and protect the developing baby throughout the pregnancy.
