Horizon oil spill
The Horizon oil spill occurred in April 2010 when BP's Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, causing a massive release of crude oil into the ocean. The explosion resulted in 11 workers losing their lives and a catastrophic spill that discharged millions of barrels of oil over several months. This environmental disaster harmed marine ecosystems, affected coastal economies, and highlighted issues with offshore drilling safety. Efforts to contain and clean up the spill took years, making it one of the largest and most costly environmental disasters in U.S. history.
