Hop growing

Hop growing involves cultivating the hop plant (Humulus lupulus), a perennial climbing vine used primarily to flavor beer. The process begins with planting rhizomes or young plants in well-drained soil with ample sunlight. They require trellises or strings to support their vigorous growth and plenty of water and nutrients. During the growing season, hops develop cone-shaped flowers that contain lupulin, the compound responsible for bitterness and aroma in beer. Harvesting typically occurs in late summer or early fall when the cones mature. Proper care, including disease management and pruning, ensures healthy growth and quality harvests.
