hoof anatomy

The hoof is a complex structure that supports a horse's weight and absorbs shock during movement. It consists of the outer wall made of tough keratin (like your fingernails), which protects internal structures. Inside, there's the sensitive laminae, which secure the hoof wall to the coffin bone, the main bone inside the hoof. The hoof also has the sole (bottom area), frogs (V-shaped tissue that aids traction and shock absorption), and the heel. Blood flow and nerves run through these structures, helping with sensation and circulation. Together, these components work to keep the horse balanced, comfortable, and able to move effectively.
