Honour killings

Honor killings are violent acts, often murder, committed by family members against a relative, usually a woman or girl, to restore perceived lost reputation or social standing. These acts are justified by perpetrators as defending family honor, typically in response to behaviors such as refusing an arranged marriage, seeking divorce, or being accused of misconduct. Such killings are rooted in cultural and societal beliefs, and are illegal in most countries, though they still occur in some regions. They reflect deep issues of gender inequality, social control, and the misuse of tradition.
