Honnō-ji

Honnō-ji is a historic Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan, founded in the late 16th century. It served not only as a religious site but also as a strategic political center. The temple is famously known for its association with Oda Nobunaga, a powerful daimyo (feudal lord), who was betrayed and attacked there in 1582. The attack, ordered by his vassal Akechi Mitsuhide, led Nobunaga to commit seppuku (ritual suicide). Today, Honnō-ji is a popular site for visitors interested in Japan’s history and culture, symbolizing a pivotal moment in the unification of Japan.
