Homozygosity mapping

Homozygosity mapping is a genetic technique used to identify regions of the genome where an individual has inherited identical copies of a gene from both parents. This often happens in families with inherited diseases. By analyzing affected individuals, scientists look for shared homozygous regions—areas where both gene copies are the same—that may contain the gene responsible for the condition. This approach helps narrow down the search for disease-causing genes, especially in cases of recessive disorders, making it easier to understand genetic causes and develop targeted treatments.
