Homogeneous Catalyst
A homogeneous catalyst is a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction while existing in the same phase (usually liquid) as the reactants. Because it is in the same phase, it mixes thoroughly with the reactants, making the reaction more efficient. The catalyst helps lower the energy needed for the reaction to occur, without being consumed in the process. Afterwards, the catalyst can be recovered and reused. Homogeneous catalysts are commonly used in industrial processes like producing fuels, plastics, and pharmaceuticals to improve reaction rates and selectivity.
