Homestead Strike
The Homestead Strike of 1892 was a major labor conflict at the Carnegie Steel Company's steelworks in Homestead, Pennsylvania. Workers protested wage cuts and poor working conditions, leading to a strike. The company hired pinkertons, private security agents, to break the strike, resulting in a violent confrontation where several people were injured or killed. Despite the workers' resistance, the strikers eventually lost, and the company maintained control. The strike highlighted the harsh realities of industrial labor, the power struggles between workers and corporations, and marked a significant moment in U.S. labor history.
