Home Ministry of Japan
The Home Ministry of Japan, which existed from 1873 to 1947, was responsible for internal affairs such as public safety, police, firefighting, local government, and administrative management. It aimed to maintain domestic order and oversee regional governance during Japan’s modernization. The ministry played a central role in implementing policies related to local administration and civil security. After World War II, it was abolished as part of Japan’s post-war reforms, and its functions were redistributed to other government agencies, notably the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
