Home Enteral Nutrition

Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) involves delivering nutrition directly to a person's gastrointestinal tract at home, usually through a feeding tube. It is used for individuals who cannot eat enough by mouth due to illness, surgery, or medical conditions affecting swallowing or digestion. The nutrition, which includes calories, proteins, vitamins, and minerals, is provided via a tube inserted into the stomach or small intestine, either continuously or at scheduled times. HEN allows patients to maintain their nutritional health and quality of life outside of a hospital setting, with medical guidance and support to ensure safe and effective feeding.
