Holstein breed development

The Holstein breed was developed in the Netherlands in the 19th century by crossing local Dutch cattle with imported breeds like the North Holland Red and Friesian types. The goal was to create a high-yield dairy cow with excellent milk production. Over time, selective breeding focused on traits like milk volume, udder health, and overall durability. Holsteins are now the most widespread dairy cows worldwide, known for their distinctive black and white markings and exceptional milk output, making them a cornerstone breed in the global dairy industry.
