Holonymy

Holonymy is a linguistic relationship where a term refers to a whole, of which other terms denote parts. For example, "car" is a holonym of "engine," "wheel," or "door," because these are parts that collectively make up a car. Conversely, the parts are called meronyms of the whole. Holonymy helps us understand how language relates things as parts and wholes, clarifying how specific terms are connected within a larger context.
