Holocene extinction

The Holocene extinction, also known as the sixth mass extinction, refers to the significant and rapid loss of species occurring mainly since the late 19th century. Unlike past natural extinctions, this one is driven largely by human activities such as habitat destruction, pollution, overfishing, and climate change. These factors threaten countless plants, animals, and insects with extinction, disrupting ecosystems and the balance of life on Earth. While extinctions are a natural part of Earth's history, the current rate is much faster and unprecedented, raising concerns about the long-term health of the planet's biodiversity.
