James R. Hoffa, commonly known as Jimmy Hoffa, was a prominent American labor union leader, born in 1913. He served as president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, one of the largest and most influential union organizations, from 1957 until 1971. Hoffa was known for his efforts to improve workers’ rights and wages but also for allegations of mob ties and corruption. He disappeared in 1975 at age 62 and was declared legally dead in 1982; his disappearance remains one of the most famous unsolved mysteries in American history.
