Hobby Lobby v. Burwell

Hobby Lobby v. Burwell was a 2014 Supreme Court case in which the craft store chain Hobby Lobby challenged the Affordable Care Act’s requirement for employers to provide health insurance that covers contraceptives. Hobby Lobby argued that, as a closely-held for-profit corporation, it had the right to refuse coverage for certain contraceptives based on the owners' religious beliefs. The Supreme Court ruled that for-profit companies can be exempt from such regulations if they violate religious beliefs, thereby allowing Hobby Lobby to opt out of providing those specific contraceptive coverages for its employees.
