Hobbesian determinism
Hobbesian determinism is the idea that everything in the universe, including human actions, is governed by cause-and-effect relationships. According to philosopher Thomas Hobbes, our choices and behaviors are determined by prior conditions—our desires, beliefs, and external circumstances—leaving no room for free will as an independent force. In this view, our decisions are the result of a chain of natural laws and mechanisms, meaning that given the same circumstances, the outcome would always be the same. Essentially, Hobbes believed that human behavior is predictable and shaped by the natural order, not by autonomous free choice.
