Hoarseness
Hoarseness is a change in the voice that makes it sound raspy, strained, or lower in pitch. It occurs when the vocal cords inside the voice box (larynx) become inflamed, swollen, or irritated. Causes can include infections like colds, overusing the voice, allergies, acid reflux, or other medical conditions. Mild hoarseness often improves on its own, but persistent or severe hoarseness should be evaluated by a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment. Resting the voice and staying hydrated can help soothe minor cases, while ongoing issues may require further medical assessment.
