HO-1 (Basic Form)
HO-1, or heme oxygenase-1, is an enzyme in the body that helps break down heme—a component of hemoglobin in red blood cells—into useful substances and waste products. Its “basic form” refers to its normal, natural state in cells. HO-1 plays a protective role by reducing oxidative stress, minimizing inflammation, and helping repair tissue damage. When the body faces stress, injury, or oxidative challenges, HO-1 levels often increase, acting as a defense mechanism to support healing and maintain cellular health.
